The photos on this page take you back to the special day we purchased our new team members, the donkeys Jac and Josephine.
Together with a dedicated team, we traveled to the village of Toubah Mourid. We were accompanied by our trusted contact Karamo, the headmaster of the school in Bambadala, the village chief of Santhie Bamba, and our helper Moussa. Thanks to Moussa’s extensive experience with donkeys, we could ensure that Jac and Josephine were healthy and at the right age to take on their important task.
In addition to the donkeys, we purchased the necessary harnesses to safely hitch them to the cart. Our next stop was a neighboring village to inspect the cart itself, where we promptly painted the name of the school on the backboard.
The journey to their new home was quite an undertaking: a herder guided Jac and Josephine across 28 kilometers of steppe—first to the location of the cart, and then all the way to Santhie Bamba.
Our new "school bus" is now fully operational! This is a massive step forward for the village, and especially for the children. They finally have the opportunity to learn how to read and write. Through this transportation, we are opening the door to a better future and a meaningful place in society.
